Heather painted this plein air piece during a visit to her son's farmette, with the inspiration of a rundown bairn on his property. She used a small pre-framed canvas and painted a colorful sky and a foreground of grass adding creative touches like spring green buds on the tree and pink and blue flower to tie in the sky. She also added blue to the barn and left a faint natural impression of a curved path sweeping behind it. Every-time she looks at the painting, she sees that faint path and considers renaming it The Road Less Traveled.
